Cheeky Paradeが著名人に取材企画！ ～Vol.3 蛯名健一さん編～
10月に全国ツアーの最終公演をニューヨークで行う、9人組アイドルグループのCheeky Parade。
海外進出・ニューヨークでツアーファイナルというアイドル前代未聞の展開を控え、『NY公演を控えたチキパ、海外をまたにかけて活躍する人から海外進出の極意を聞こう!!! Cheeky Parade 「日本の文化を学べ！」』という取材企画が立ち上がった。
Cheeky Paradeメンバーが記者となり、各界で、日本を代表し、また世界で活躍する著名人へメンバー自身が取材するという企画内容だ。
その第三弾として、ニューヨークのアポロ・シアターで行なわれた『Apollo Amateur Night 』で7回連続優勝するなど、世界的に有名なパフォーマー“EBIKEN”こと・蛯名健一さんにCheeky Paradeのメンバーからリーダーの関根・渡辺・溝呂木・永井の4名がインタビューを敢行した。
関根 「私達、Cheeky Paradeは10月にNYでのライブを控えていて、世界をまたにかけて活躍されている皆さんから、お話しを聞かせて頂こうという企画を立ち上げました！今日は、インタビュワーとなって蛯名さんから色々お話しを聞かせてください！宜しくお願いします。」
蛯名 「宜しくお願いします！」
関根 「ダンサーになったきっかけは何だったんですか？」
蛯名 「ダンスは二十歳くらいから、本格的にやり始めたんです。よく聞かれるので言っているんですが、実は失恋がきっかけで渡米して。そこから始めたんですよ。子供の時からバイクが好きで、いつかルート66を走ってみたいなというのと、英語も話せたらいいなと思って渡米して。そこでふとした事から趣味でダンスを始めそのまま現在に至ってます。」
関根 「そうなんですね！今のご自分を振り返ってみられて、このチャレンジ・経験があって良かった！という想い出はありますか？」
蛯名 「留学した土地が田舎だったというとこですね。都会だと、スタジオもあったりして、きっと“ダンスのスキル”を追及していたと思うんです。でも、田舎だったから色々な人に触れて、国際的な文化祭とかにも出たりして、“一般の人に楽しんでもらうには”という視野が身に付いたことによって、今のパフォーマンススタイルになりました。環境が良かったですね。」
溝呂木 「蛯名さんのダンスって、独自に生み出されたものという感じがします！」
蛯名 「エンターテイメントの一部、という感じですね。歌、ジャグリング、などなどいろいろな人を楽しませるための手法、ダンスもその方法の一つというか。」
関根 「なるほど。海外でパフォーマンスをされていると思いますが、日本と海外では、何か違いは有りますか？」
蛯名 「やはり、自分の常識が海外では非常識になることが多々ありますよ。文化が異なるので、海外では自分の意見を出して、コミュニケーションを取るようにした方が良いですね。」
チキパ一同 「なるほど・・・！」
蛯名 「海外公演も控えている、チキパは何を目指して活動しているの？」
関根 「宇宙No.1を目指す！という目標のもと、まずはアイドルの枠を越えた活躍をしたい。NYでのツアー最終公演はその第一歩になると信じています。」
溝呂木 「日本代表として、アイドルの面白さや、チキパなりの日本文化を伝えてみたい。アレンジしたりして。そんな風に思ってます。」
蛯名 「なるほど。海外だからって力みすぎず、ありのままのチキパを見せた方がいいね。アメリカ人だからといっても、やはりみんな人間なので。気負いせずに楽しくすることが、チキパの皆の表情も良くなるし、見ている海外の人も楽しめると思いますよ！」
永井 「でも、ステージでは良く緊張しちゃうんです・・・。」
蛯名 「なんで？！舞台で緊張することは僕は無いですよ(笑)」
永井 「え～っ！！」
蛯名 「基本的にステージを楽しんでます。間違えるとかは気にしなくって良いんです！今までの練習や経験を信じて、楽しめばいい。お客さんは基本的に楽しみに来ているし、メンバーの失敗すら可愛い！って思ってくれるはずですよ！」
渡辺 「なんだか、すこし気が楽になりました！(笑)」
溝呂木 「蛯名さんのパフォーマンスって、一度観たら忘れられない！っていうくらい本当に感動したんですが、どうやって発想が浮かぶんですか？」
蛯名 「意外と、1つ1つのスキルはそこまで高くないと思っています。“上手く見せる工夫”をしているんですよ。例えば、首が落ちるようなダンスパフォーマンスがあるんですが、リアルなのか、マジックなのか分からない絶妙な位置で止める。不思議に見えるストーリーを作るようにしています。」
チキパ一同 「すご～い！！！」
蛯名 「チキパはステージについてスタッフさんと話すの？」
渡辺 「8月に東京で行ったワンマンライブは、構成含めてスタッフさんとも話して当日を迎えました！」
蛯名 「いいですね！そうやって、色々なものを取り入れて、どんどん自分自身もアンテナが張っていくんだとおもいますよ。」
関根 「有難うございます。自分たちでも色々とコツコツ考えるようにして、頑張っていきます！最後に、蛯名さんが思う“エンターテイメント”とは何か聞かせて下さい！」
蛯名 「“楽しい”ということ。自分が楽しくパフォーマンスし、見ている人が笑ってくれる。言語を越えて伝えられるものですね。」
■Profile
蛯名健一
2001年に結成した日本人ダンスグループ「BiTriP」からダンスキャリアを開始し、「BiTriP」は2001年ニューヨークのアポロシアターで行われた「Amateur Night」にて日本人初の年間総合チャンピオンとなる。
また、2007年にはTV版の「Showtime At The Apollo」にソロで出場し７週連続で 年間優勝、さらに2013年には「America’s Got Talent」シーズン8に出演し優勝者となる。
テレビ出演、イベントへの参加、単独公演、本の出版、Youtubeの映像等で活動の場を世界中 に広げている。

Cheeky Parade interviews celebrities! Kenichi Ebina edition
The 9 girl idol group, Cheeky Parade will hold the last show of their Japan tour in New York in October.
Chikipa is going overseas to hold the final show of their tour in New York. Before they took such an unprecedented step as an idol group, an interview project was launched, “Before the NY show, let’s learn the secret of overseas expansion from people who work all over the world!!! Cheeky Parade, learn about Japanese culture!”
The members of Cheeky Parade then became journalists and interviewed celebrities who play an active role globally in their own field while representing Japan.

In the 3rd interview, Cheeky Parade leader Sekine together with Watanabe, Mizorogi and Nagai went to interview Kenichi Ebina, aka EBIKEN, worldwide famous performer who has won 7 times at “Apollo Amateur Night.”
Ebina: Nice to meet you too. Thank you for having me.
Sekine: What was the reason you became a dancer?
Ebina: I started dancing seriously when I was 20. I get this question often so I tell this story. I went to the US when I was brokenhearted and happened to start dancing. I wanted to go to the US because I loved motorcycles since I was little. I wanted to drive on route 66 and wanted to learn speaking English as well. After coming to the US, I started dancing as a hobby.
Sekine: I see! When you look back your past, do you have any experience that you think was important for your career?
Ebina: The fact that I stayed in the countryside when I first went to the US was important. If I started out in the city, there would have been dance studios so I would have been pursuing dance skills. However, because I was in a country area, I met many people, performed in international cultural festivals and learned how to entertain common people. That lead me to my performance style now. The environment was great!
Mizorogi: Your dance style seems to be uniquely created.
Ebina: I think that dance is a part of entertainment. It’s one of the ways to entertain people like singing and jugging.
Sekine: I see. You perform overseas. Do you notice any differences between Japan and the US?
Ebina: Sometimes, your common sense becomes non-common sense overseas. It’s better to communicate with people with your opinion overseas, because every countries have different cultures.
Chikipa members: I see!
Ebina: You Chikipa girls are preparing to perform overseas now. What is your goal?
Sekine: We are aiming to be No.1 in the universe! That is our goal and we are aiming to work beyond being idols. The last show of our tour in NY will be the first step.
Mizorogi: We want to introduce what’s fun about pop idols and Japanese culture with the Chikipa way.
Ebina: I see. Don’t try too hard and just be Chikipa selves no matter where you are. I think the American people will enjoy too if you relax and enjoy the show while acting naturally.
Nagai: But I get nervous onstage…
Ebina: Why? I never get nervous onstage. Lol
Nagai: Really?
Ebina: Basically, I just have fun onstage. You don’t have to worry about making mistakes! Just believe your experience, what you’ve practiced and have fun. Audiences are looking forward to seeing you guys onstage and they think your mistakes are cute too!
Watanabe: I feel better to hear that! Lol
Mizorogi: Your performance was unforgettable. I was so moved. How do you come up with ideas?
Ebina: I think that each of my skills are not so high. I have a trick that makes it look like I can dance well. For instance, there is a dance move where I drop my head, I stop my head at a position that looks like it is real or magic. I create visuals to make the audience wonder.
Chikipa members: That is amazing!
Ebina: Do you guys talk with the staff about the stage?
Watanabe: We talked with the staff about the stage structure for the Tokyo show in August.
Ebina: That’s awesome! I think that is how you learn and start to pay attention more and more.
Sekine: Thank you. We will try to learn step by step! Lastly please tell us what is entertainment for you ?
Ebina: Entertainment is fun. I have fun when I am able to perform and make the audience smile. Entertainment is something we can all enjoy beyond language.
■Kenichi Ebina Profile
Began his professional dance career with a Japanese dance group “BiTriP,” formed in 2001. “BiTriP” became the first Japanese grand champion at Amateur Night in 2001. Moreover, as a solo dancer, he won seven times and became the champion of the year on the TV version of “Showtime At The Apollo” in 2007. He also became the winner of the eighth season of America's Got Talent in 2013.
By appearing on TV shows, performing at events, holding one-man shows, publishing books and YouTube videos, he continues to expand his activities worldwide.
